GSP Gym
GSP Gym was originally started back in 2017 under the title of Galway Strength & Performance (GSP). Matty Costello had a vision that he wanted to create a home in Galway for strongmen/women and powerlifters. There was a small community here in Galway but no where that could facilitate all the needs of this group of dedicated athletes, some of whom had already represented Ireland on an international stage.
Little did he realise that GSP would grow over the next 7yrs into the mecca of strongman and strongwoman in Ireland but also be instrumental in the growth of Natural Strongman both nationally and internationally.
In 2020, just before covid hit, Galway Strength and Performance was rebranded under the GSP banner that has gone on to incorporate promotions, equipment and online coaching and more recently, the ABSxGSP collab in Dublin…and its far from over.
Meet the Coaches
Ayshea Ullah
Owner & Coach
Ayshea is 5x Irelands Strongest Woman (opens) and 2021 OSG Worlds Strongest Masters Woman. This was the first Strongman World title to be brought back to Ireland..ever.
She also holds multiple powerlifting titles and has broken down many strength barriers for women in this country over the past 10yrs. She is also the founder of ‘Strongwoman Ireland’ which she now heads alongside 4 prominent Irish Strongwomen to promote and raise awareness of the sport in Ireland and also raise funds to assist Strongwomen with the costs of competing internationally.
Ayshea is passionate about coaching, particularly those who are new to lifting or lack confidence but want to make positove changes to their health.
Ayshea is also in the final year of a Sports Therapy Bsc.
Matty Costello started his lifting career in powerlifting but his passion quickly became the sport of Strongman. Before his flip to strongman Matty achieved the amazing feat of a 300kg squat as a junior lifter, this earned him a national record but also broke that barrier for junior male lifters.
Matty has competed nationally and internationally in Strongman however the past few years has seen him turn his focus to coaching and promoting/organising competitions and in his own words ‘is much better coach/promoter, than athlete’ however we hope that one day he wil make his return to competition in the sport he loves. He coached Ayshea to all of her titles as well as Cillien Groom to 2 Irelands Strongest Man Titles as well as u64/u73/masters & u82 women to national and international titles!!
More recently he has become one of the founding members of Natural Strongman. This new tested federation has absolutely taken the world of strongman by storm and is keeping Matty on his toes!
